Happy Saturday!

Good morning!

I woke up very hungry for some reason (frequently happens after strength training) so I made breakfast right away. I had a bowl of oat bran with:

-organic ground flax
-1 chopped fig
-1/2 a peach
-1/3 C (?) cottage cheese
-PB

And with coffee:

Right after blogging this morning, I'm off to teach at one studio in the morning and another studio in the afternoon. Only about 3 1/2 hours of teaching, but there will be a lot of driving, as there are on most of my Saturdays.

Yesterday I made another fabulous lunch of a rice bowl with tons of toppings:

This included:

-brown rice
-last of the sauteed cabbage
-1/2 can of tuna
-1/2 sauteed zucchini with tofu
-cheddar cheese
-avocado
-salsa

I'm out of salsa, so I need to get that, and today I plan to have this meal again with the remainder of the tuna and the zucchini. :) It's REALLY tasty!

My sweet tooth hit HARD yesterday night so at first I had a banana with PB.

Then I was still craving sweets so I had the other half of a cupcake that I bought from a local bakery that had their $1 cupcake day on Wednesday. (I never blogged about the other half, eaten on Wednesday night.) I believe this flavor was vegan too, although I ordered it simply because it was so chocolatey! :)

Oooh! It stands up. (*I'm so proud*-haha!)

And another random snack from yesterday:

Plus, look what came in the mail! A free sample!

It might have to get eaten today.

Well, I'm running late to go shower and teach, so I'll see you all tonight to read and comment! Hope you all have a FABULOUS Saturday! :)

Recital success!

I know I haven't posted for a few days, but they've been a good few days. I've definitely kept busy! The most exciting thing that happened was my first ever studio recital on Sunday! Fourteen of my students performed a solo piece and I also played at the end. We had a very full house, with about 75 parents, relatives and friends in attendance! I had typed up and printed programs on fancy paper, but we quickly ran out of the 35 I had made. We even had to borrow chairs from the Subway sandwich shop next door! And my boyfriend recorded the whole recital on his laptop so I can even send a CD to my own parents, who live 2,400 miles away. Woohoo! I heard only positive feedback from the parents; they all thought it was a lovely event and thanked me for working hard to organize it! It was incredibly exciting! I can't share pictures due to privacy, but I did get several very cute pictures with my students and two of them gave me these beautiful bouquets.

Then on Tuesday I had a concert, for which the dress rehearsal was on Monday night. I was only playing one short piece, but it was still a lot of time of getting to the rehearsal and sitting around. The annoying part of it is that I had to reschedule my normal Tuesday night students, but most of the families are very understanding.

Anyway, here are some of my eats. I've really been trying to cut back on most sugars and I really feel much better. I've found that I'm really not wanting a lot of sugar anyway. I've even lost a couple of pounds, but that's not my primary focus.

Breakfast today:

2 Boca sausage links w. organic ketchup
sweet potatoes with PB
organic broccoli with hummus (you'll probably see this again!)
1/2 slice healthy homemade nanner bread w. PB
{there was coffee too, of course}

~~~~~~~~~~~~
A random snack yesterday (and eaten again today, but would be exactly the same picture) is pepper jack cheese on Kashi crackers. One of the most delicious things! {And I have a HUGE bag of leftover cheese from the recital! I got to take home sooooo much free food!}
And yes--you guessed it. The carrots and dip are also from the recital! :) I've been eating tons of carrots with three different kinds of hummus, in addition to that dip you see. I sill have lots of hummus and I am not complaining.
And how's this for a low-sugar breakfast?
2 Boca links
sweet potatoes
broccoli with PB {yes, I know I'm weird. PB goes on everything. Don't knock it 'til you try it!}
And wow, it's been a long time since I've blogged. I have so many breakfasts on my camera! Breakfast is always my biggest meal and then I pretty much graze throughout the day. And breakfast is always the easiest to take a picture of. So here's two more for you:
2 eggs, zucchini sauteed in EVOO, 1 slice nanner bread with PB.
As above, except with a peach instead of the banana bread. YUM! Note to self--buy more zucchini! Zucchini ranks up there with my favorite veggies, along with broccoli, snap peas, red bell peppers and carrots! What are your favorite veggies? What are your favorite raw ones versus cooked?
That loaf of banana bread fed me well all week! This was just another random snack...
...so was this! (The ever self-explanatory carrots and PB, my go-to snack!)
And a quick WF stop. (OK, there might have been a couple of these! GAH--I need to stop doing this! But I usually keep it to about $7 and that's really no more than I'd spend at Quizno's and less than for Chinese takeout. I'd prefer this healthy AMAZING stuff, any day! And sometimes, you're just hungry while you're out and about!) Anyway, this was garlicky greens, sweet potatoes, and a couple different kinds of tofu! Delicious!
Here's my last of those chocolate covered cherries my BF got me. Yes, they're pretty much just the best thing I've ever tasted!
Last, but certainly not least, I've been enjoying this delicious snack mix that I bought while I was at Target anyway. It's honestly not THAT unhealthy, and I've been preferring that it's higher in fat, lower in sugar and still very chocolatey! Of course, it's still more of a moderation food, but I've been pretty good about sticking to one serving at a time. {Because fat fills me up and keeps me full --and not wanting food-- for a long time!}
Well, I'm off to read in bed. I'll definitely comment in the morning. I have a lot of blog reading to catch up on!
Longest cold ever!
Good morning! I'm blogging after waking up at 11:30am, because I purposely let my body sleep A LOT due to a cold that is still hanging on. It's so annoying, and I'm a little worried because I think it might be turning into a sinus infection. My ears still feel clogged and I'm a little dizzy, no matter how much sleep I've had. I REALLY don't want to have to go to the doctor for antibiotics, but I might have to. However, I've already been there *twice* in the past month, first for antibiotics for my finger infection and then for general blood work to try and figure out way my periods are still very irregular, even 6 years after anorexia. So we'll see; hopefully I don't have to go.
Anyway, here's some food I ate over the weekend and today for breakfast. I'm not able to take too many pictures over the weekend because I'm usually around a lot of people and I'm still keeping this blog pretty private. Even my boyfriend doesn't know about it. I wonder sometimes if that's weird and if I should just tell him, but most of my friends don't share my passion for healthy eating and blogging.
Breakfast today was a bowl of oat bran (which I like more than oatmeal) with 1 peach, 1/3 C ff cottage cheese, 2 different kinds of PB, and pumpkin stirred in. With coffee and skim milk.
On Saturday I played a really fancy wedding gig. It was so nice and the clients really appreciated me! They thanked me and tipped me well and were such sweet people that I wanted to play exceptionally well for them. It turned out so perfectly! On my way to that gig, I bought a small Quizno's turkey and cheese sub.
Doesn't it look tasty?!
Plus a free sample of their chocolate chip cookie!
And in the car while driving I had this:
Earlier on Saturday, after the 5K run, my bf and I went to Denny's where I got an egg white veggie omelet with dry grits and dry wheat toast, and a glass of FF milk that turned into probably 16 ounces! So good! And I was craving milk after the run! (No pictures-sorry.)
I also had half of this bar, that was given out after a race LAST weekend that I also ran.
As a heads up, you can request a free sample of Kashi cereal here.
You can also get a free sample of Nature Valley Nut Clusters here.
As for a giveaway, you can enter to win a Wanchai Fairy "stay-at-home" prize pack here, including Chinese food, Asian inspired rice bowls, chopsticks and bamboo place mats!
I'm off to go to something productive. I need to practice for a bit and shower, maybe take a walk and hit the bank, then I'm teaching for two hours and I have a rehearsal tonight. Here's to hoping that this cold or sinus infection or whatever it is goes away SOON!
Hope everyone has a lovely Monday!
Bring on the weekend!
Happy Friday everyone! My weekend looks like this:
  • teach one lesson today from 2-3
  • drive 2 hours north to play an acoustic indie folk show at a small music festival
  • drive home pretty late, probably getting home around midnight
  • teach Saturday morning 10-12 noon
  • attend a recital that two of my students are playing at
  • go to a local concert/show that my wonderful boyfriend is playing at
  • church on Sunday morning
  • teach one violin lesson after church
  • play a rock violin show on Sunday afternoon/evening
Whew, it should be an AWESOME couple of days. Obviously I won't have too much time to post or comment, but I'll try to read your blogs. :)
I had a delicious bowl of oatmeal this morning. All the usual stuff (pumpkin, flax, noni juice) and I added a splash of FF milk, some frozen strawberries, 1/3 FF cottage cheese, and a spoon of Sunflower Seed butter. (I also had probably one serving of cashew pieces while making this).
For lunch yesterday I made a great omelet with a bunch of leftover sauteed veggies, broccoli, 1 egg, 1/4 C egg whites, and feta cheese. I topped it with avocado, hummus and more feta. :) It was seriously delicious and healthy.
I cooked the veggies first.
Stuffed the omelet:
And folded it over with the extra veggies on the side.
I had a bunch of grape tomatoes while making the omelet.
And I ended lunch with a Breyers yogurt. (Added a bit of cereal for some crunch).
And a peach.
Right before the gym I had a FiberPlus Antioxidants bar. At the gym I did 28 minutes on the Expresso bike and beat my Ghost rider (previous best ride time) by almost 2 minutes! Yay! Then I had to hurry to meet my boyfriend and his away-from-home family for dinner. We went to a local bar where we had fried cauliflower, pizza and beer. I had two slices with veggies, chicken and lots of cheese on them. They were pretty greasy but delicious. I think a sweat session at the gym will help though. So I'm off now. I also need to do a load of laundry at some point.
My trip to NYC is coming up in less than a week!! I am so excited about it! We're going to catch a show, hopefully, walk around Central Park, visit Ground Zero and a church near there, walk around Grenwich (sp?) Village, see Times Square, attend a concert at Julliard (!), and eat at lots of adorable NYC restaurants. I don't know if I have any readers in NYC yet, but if so, or if there's anyone familiar with the city, do you have any recommendations of restaurants to eat at? Even if you've just visited there, what were some of your favorites?
Have a FANTASTIC weekend!
Being sore feels great!
I woke up nice and sore this morning but it feels great. In addition to the racquetball from yesterday, I also did a bunch of frog jumps (jumping squats) to warm up with and my legs definitely feel it today. Of course, I'm still going to the gym shortly here. :)
The sad news is that the Pens lost the hockey game in overtime, so the 7th game in the series will be played on Wednesday night. Talk about NERVE-WRACKING. Go Pens!
I ate a great bowl of blackberry cashew oats today:
-1/2 C oats
-1/3 C pumpkin
-noni juice (I'll put this in every day to use up the bottle, not because I think it's really as great at it claims to be!)
-ground flax
-cashews
-blackberries
-a tiny bit of granola to finish it
Yesterday I was hungry all afternoon. A couple pictures:
Tofu with sauteed cabbage, kale, fresh ginger, onion, tamari and hot sauce
Eaten with Ak-mak crackers and hummus
My dinner was this amazing bowl of veggies. Consisted of broccoli, the mixture above (the cabbage/kale/ginger stuff), tofu, and topped with low fat feta cheese! This was incredible and also a HUGE amount of food, which I love!
Fruit for dessert.
Unphotographed foods were 2 Clif Z bars, 2 Miller lite beers (at night with the boyfriend), some chocolate covered espresso beans, and 2 squares of Ghiradelli raspberry dark chocolate. :)
Sweet and Fit is having a giveaway for $10 off a purchase from MixMyGranola.
On my to do list today, before leaving the house to teach at 3:30 is:
-Bank
-Post office
-Look for housing options for next year!
-Gym
-Practice
-Shop, and try to convince myself to buy an iPod. I ONLY have EVER owned an iPod shuffle (*first generation* thank you very much!) It's ironic especially considering that I'm a full-time professional musician. Umm, yes, I might just need to shell out the money for the iPod. My cord on my shuffle pretty much dead and I'd have time today to run up to the Apple store and buy it/load it up with music! Woohoo! Yes, I need to do that. Full report later. :)
