My boyfriend and I were planning on going to an amusement park today, but neither of us thought to check and make sure it was open today. Hah! We checked on-line for their hours before we left, and found out that the entire park was closed today. So much for that. FAIL. :)
It's OK though, because I'm getting over a cold and I still don't have a lot of energy today. Instead we played Scrabble and went to Red Robin for lunch. I got their BBQ whiskey chicken wrap. Forgive the Google images picture.
It was only OK. I should have asked for it without Ranch dressing, because I'm not a huge fan of it, but overall it was pretty tasty. I only had 1 half, plus a few bites of the other, some fries and the melon. I actually felt good, not stuffed, afterwards, and I was pleased.
Then I napped in the afternoon because I'm still trying to fight the cold. And for dinner I made myself a delicious pan of sauteed veggies (organic cabbage, red bell pepper, organic white onion, zucchini) and tofu, which I topped with PB. This isn't weird, right?
Delicious! And some low calorie organic Pomegranate Lemonade from WF, with a bite of a Starbucks M and M cookie for dessert. Truthfully, I had another chunk of the cookie, about as large, and several glasses of juice, but it only has 30 calories in 6 ounces, so I'm fine.
In blog news, check out these giveaways:
AnAppleADay has MetroMint water. I've wanted to try this for a long time!
Missy Maintains is giving away Dave's Killer Bread! The loaves look fantastic, with excellent nutritional stats.
One Frugal Foodie is giving away a gift package with a bunch of Pamela's Products.
I'm off to bed. It's 11:35pm, and I need to be up early (for me) to teach. And I'm really trying to take it easy to get over my cold.
I'm home, and thanks for your sweet comments on my last post. I know it feels like forever since I've blogged! But here I am, and I hope you enjoy this post.
The Iowa shows were a great success as we got to play for lots of people, sold a decent amount of merchandise, and generally had a blast! One of the shows was at a nature conservancy with a bunch of great hiking trails. I went out to go hiking and I ended up getting lost, walking (with a tiny bit of running) for about 4 hours! I was a little worried though, because I didn't have any water and I was getting mighty sunburned! (Now, a week later, it's peeling incredibly severely, complete with water blisters, which means it was actually a second degree burn! Not fun, but not a huge deal. It honestly didn't hurt THAT much, and I'm fine now, minus the really obnoxious peeling!) The "walk" turned into probably at least 10-15 miles! And the next day I walked/jogged a 3 mile trail!
Here are some pictures of the Iowa plains, flatlands, farmlands, hiking trails, and nature that I saw and got to walk through, while there.
This stream running under a hiking trail was one of my favorite sights. :)
In clarification of my title of this post, I am moving apartments in less than a week. My lease is up on June 29th, so I'll be moving in with two new people who seem nice but I don't really know them, so I'm hoping for the best. I have a pretty good feeling about it, though. Therefore, all of my free time (after getting home!) has been spent packing up endless boxes! I have most of my stuff put away, but there's still a lot to do:
clean the house entirely tomorrow
call landlord about where to leave the keys
be here on Monday for the gas company to shut of the gas
call a mover about the big stuff, mainly my bed and some book shelves. (Ack! Still need to do this!!!)
BREATHE. :)
I'm really exhausted right now (I've been fighting off being sick, and I woke up with a 101.2 fever today! But it's gone as of tonight, so YAY! Still have achy glands so I figure that I need to get some quality sleep!)
But here are a few quick food pictures. I have been eating really strange stuff as I'm trying to eat down the contents of my fridge. I'm sure you all understand. :)
I had a yogurt with leftover Kashi cereal and PB Loco Peanut Butter. (With coffee!)
I also used up a jar of Seeds of Change TikkaMasala sauce that I sauteed some chicken in. It's great, because I finished my frozen chicken tenders and I have an easy-to-grab protein filled snack any time. It's also incredibly easy. :)
I regularly crave broccoli, especially after being on the road touring for a week! I only ate 2 of the chicken tenders and saved the others, by the way.
On a less healthy note, my wonderful amazing boyfriend brought me a bunch of Starbucks pastries, so I've been mightily enjoying Toffee Carmel bars, reduced fat chocolate chip banana cakes, vanilla bean mini scones, and a couple other treats. They are so delicious! :)
I also finished a box of truffles this week, with the last one left.
And I finished a lonesome frozen waffle in my fridge. This was a Nature's Path Pomegranate waffle with lots of fiber and stuff and I topped it with peach yogurt.
I'm been drinking a ton of Bolthouse juice that has lots of Vitamin C in it (acerola cherries ROCK!) and it's been wonderful! So I think it helped me feel better today!
I discovered a BRILLIANT and HILARIOUS song this week by indie songwriter Jonathan Coulton called "Code Monkey". I found its music video on YouTube and I wanted to share it with you because the song cracks me up every time I hear it! :)
I am literally falling asleep at my computer, so I need to go to sleep! See you all soon! :)
Good morning! I made myself a delicious Indian flavors-themed omelet for breakfast! I sauteed 1/4 of an organic purple onion with some purple cabbage, until soft. Then I set those aside and used the same pan to cook the eggs in. (I used one whole egg, some egg whites [1/4 C?] and a little bit of milk [~1 TBSP?]. I learned this trick from a friend and I love the texture it gives the eggs!) I also put the following spices directly into the uncooked eggs:
curry powder
marjoram
garam masala
and a tiniest bit of dried basil
I cooked the eggs, added the veggies and also added a slice of fat free American cheese (which I know is full of chemicals and stuff, but I honestly love the taste of them, plus they're a good source of calcium and protein). It turned out well! I slathered it with salsa, and had planned to add some hummus (see the picture!) but I didn't actually have any hummus; the salsa was enough.
I also got a strange craving for broccoli (which I do crave pretty frequently) so I microwaved some frozen broccoli and corn.
And all of it together:
As promised, I had some good food yesterday that I was going to post today, so here goes.
I made a ham sandwich for lunch with ham spinach and hummus,
on whole wheat bread. I packed it in a ziploc baggie and took it in my car. I ended up eating it around 2pm at the university where I was practicing.
In the practice room I also dumped this into a bottle of water. Yes, again, chemicals and artificial stuff I know. But I was hungry and thirsty, so I figured it'd be perfect.
When I got home I had a special cookie treat:
From this package:
They are honestly not THAT bad for you. (And they're so out-of-this-world incredible!) The first 3 ingredients are: 1) semi-sweet chocolate [antioxidants! haha!], 2) oats and 3) whole wheat flour. Complete product information here. My only word of warning is that they're extremely addicting!
I also had some celery and PB at home; I could NOT seem to get full yesterday.
I had one more PB-filled stalk that didn't get its picture taken.
I packed ANOTHER ham sandwich for dinner during the hour long drive to orchestra--boring, I know (the food, not the orchestra!) But fast, easy, relatively cheap and reasonably healthy. Check, check, check and check.
But I got highly creative with this. I mixed it up and put a slice of FF cheese on it! (That part about "highly creative" was sarcastic, but I'm sure you all caught that!) I promise it's not a recycled picture.
I had this to sip on all afternoon.
I LOVE (love, LOVE, LOVE...you get the idea) these juices, but unfortunately they are out of my price range for a regular thing and I don't like drinking too many calories, when I can have the real fruit. But every once in a while they are a delicious treat! And I dilute mine with quite a bit of water to make it go farther and last onger!
I added a baggie of 12 almonds and a bunch of carrot sticks [these were the tiniest carrots I've ever seen! Not that I'm complaining, because I think I liked them better!]
Finally, I got home around midnight and since dinner had been at 6pm I was hungry so I had a weird bowl of plain oats, cottage cheese and sugar free grape jelly. It was surprisingly delicious! I might start adding jelly to my oats more often.
Wow, it was a super long post today. You get extra brownie points if you read the whole thing!! And even more brownie points for leaving a comment. I get ridiculously excited about reading your comments!! :)
I'm going to pack now for this weekend, then run up to the store for hair gel/spray (needed to control my curly hair, especially with 3 shows coming up in the next 3 days!!!) and probably redeem my coupon for my free Kashi entree that Heather at HangryPants also got and blogged about this week. I'll be leaving my house around 2:30pm to drive north. We have a show tonight at 7:30, which is also our CD release party/performance! It'll be on iTunes and hopefully directly on Amazon.com as well. (That wasn't actually a plug for the CD--just me being excited about having it out!)
So in other words, I won't be posting until Sunday evening, and I won't be able to comment on any of your lovely blogs! I will honestly miss the blog world, even for just 3 days!! I really enjoy the community and getting to the know the wonderful people that I've been in touch with. But I'll be back, and hopefully I'll have interesting pictures for you.
Gymnastics video of the day: Dominique Dawes' Floor routine in the 1993 World AA gymnastics championships. I apologize for the quality of the video, but the routine is sohigh energy and so well-performed and it makes me smile just watching it!
